Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Claims
Talc is a mineral powder naturally found in nature and is ground finely to produce talcum powder, which is used in a variety of personal care products as it absorbs moisture and reduces friction. Talcum powder is one of the main ingredients in Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower products. Talc-based feminine hygiene products like sanitary napkins and tampons have been sold to women since the 1970s. Sadly, long-term use of talcum powder has been linked to the development of ovarian cancer.
When female genitals come into contact with talcum powder, this creates the ability for talc particles to move through the reproductive system and attack the ovaries. When talc embeds itself into the reproductive tissue of the ovaries and fallopian tubes, DNA damage of ovarian cells can happen, which can cause cancer cells to multiply.
If you have used products containing talcum powder like Shower to Shower, baby powder, tampons or sanitary napkins regularly, you could be at an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer. Research has shown that women who use talc-based feminine hygiene products are 30% more likely to develop ovarian cancer.
If you or someone you love has been using talcum powder in the genital area regularly and has developed ovarian cancer, you may be eligible for financial compensation through a talcum powder lawsuit. A Florida Talcum Powder Attorney at Whittel & Melton can help you understand your legal options and how best to proceed.

While Johnson & Johnson products are the most notorious for containing talcum powder, this mineral can also be found in other products:
It is estimated that every year 22,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. While in the early stages, ovarian cancer will generally not show any symptoms. In the later stages, women who have ovarian cancer may see the following symptoms:
Ovarian cancer is usually treated with a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. The surgery entails removing any cancerous tissue and chemotherapy is integrated to shrink or kill any cancer cells.
Johnson& Johnson can be held accountable for your ovarian cancer if you have been a long-term user of their products containing talcum powder and have developed ovarian cancer. Johnson & Johnson had knowledge of the potential link between its products and ovarian cancer, but failed to warn women about this hazard and instead chose to attempt to hide the problem from the public for many years. During this time, they continued to pump out these dangerous products to keep boosting their profits.
Women living with ovarian cancer must endure costly medical treatments that carry a significant physical, mental, and emotional toll on their bodies. Most are no longer able to work or provide for themselves or their families.
Our Florida Talcum Powder Attorneys at Whittel & Melton can help you and your loved ones recover financial damages for the burden that ovarian cancer has placed on you. If you believe that Johnson & Johnson or any other company that manufactures personal care products is responsible for your ovarian cancer, let us help you preserve your rights and pursue a lawsuit on your behalf to recover the justice you deserve.
Talcum powder lawsuits are used to hold manufacturers liable for failing to warn users of talc about their increased risk for developing ovarian cancer and even mesothelioma when women incorporate these products into their personal hygiene routine.
In addition to ovarian cancer, talcum powder has also been associated with respiratory issues, including mesothelioma. Before the 1970s, and even still today, some talcum products contain asbestos, which is a naturally-occurring mineral and well known carcinogen. Researchers have even noted that talc has similar chemical properties as asbestos. Like asbestos, talc is a silicate mineral that has a crystalline structure. When these minerals are ingested they can cause irritation that can lead to chronic inflammation which can ultimately result in the formation of cancerous tumors.
