Holiday Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Hit and Run Collision
Port Richey, Florida – A 47-year-old Holiday man was struck on his bicycle Tuesday by a 27-year-old Port Richey woman driving a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix who left the scene of the accident.
The man was seriously injured and remains in critical condition at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman hit the man as he was crossing Fox Hollow Drive at Regency Park Boulevard. She apparently had a 1-year-old in the car with her and stopped to tell witnesses she would be right back and then fled the scene.
Later that afternoon, a witness contacted authorities after seeing what appeared to be the car involved.
The woman was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injury, failing to report a crash and careless driving. She was booked into the Pasco County jail.
Anytime a driver flees the scene of an accident it can be especially devastating to injury victims. If you or someone you love has experienced a similar situation, you may feel like you have lost your opportunity to recover damages for the injuries you have suffered. However, it is important to understand that all hope is not lost. The Pasco County Injury Attorneys at Whittel & Melton can help you discover the options available to you so that you can receive the financial compensation necessary to fully recover from your injuries.
As a bicyclist that has suffered injuries in a hit-and-run accident, you may be able to pursue an uninsured motorist claim with your car insurance company as a means of regaining monetary compensation if the driver that fled the scene is not found or if the driver is identified but is unable to pay for damages. An uninsured motorist claim can be brought after it has been confirmed that the at-fault driver left the scene of the crash or has no insurance. This can help cover any expenses related to your bicycle vs. motor vehicle accident injuries , including medical bills, lost wages and property damage.
While your insurance may cover a hit-and-run accident, providers may try and deny the claim or offer you a settlement that is far lower than what you need to cover your losses. Be aware that not taking appropriate action right away could result in a loss of your rights. The Pasco County Injury Attorneys at Whittel & Melton are well versed in the tactics many insurance companies employ to avoid payment on injury claims.
