Pasco County Trucking Accident Attorney :: Massive Dade City Tractor Trailer Crash Shuts Down I-75 for Hours

The southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near Dade City were closed for about four hours Tuesday morning after three tractor trailers, a tanker and two other vehicles were involved in a series of collisions.

The crashes occurred in the early morning hours, around 5 a.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, one man was airlifted to Bayonet Point Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened after a semi in the outside lane began braking after another driver spotted stalled traffic ahead due to an accident involving another semi and a sport utility vehicle. A tanker behind the semi failed to slow down and crashed into the truck, according to the FHP.

The tanker then traveled into the inside lane, smashing into a box truck. That truck then rammed into another tractor trailer.

The contents of all the trucks remained in one piece and there were no reports of any leaks or spills.

The crashes are still under investigation and charges are pending, according to the FHP.

Trucking accidents and tractor trailer accidents can happen for a variety of reasons, and can be some of the most dangerous road accidents. Drivers and passengers travelling in automobiles that are involved in accidents with big rigs, 18-wheelers or even smaller trucks often suffer serious personal injuries. Sadly, in many cases, these accidents are fatal.

Trucking accident cases can be quite complex as it may be difficult to determine who is at fault, or responsible for the accident. An exhaustive investigation must be performed to gather all necessary details and evidence, including police reports and truck logs, so that the negligent party can be held liable for any serious injuries and damages. There are many different kinds of trucking accidents that occur on Pasco County’s roads and highways. While some of these collisions may arise due to factors beyond our control, such as inclement weather or even attempting to avoid an accident, as this case demonstrates, most trucking accidents are caused by driver error. Truck accidents can also occur because of aggressive driving, recklessness, speeding, truck driver fatigue, drunk driving and even failing to maintain the truck and correctly securing cargo loads.
