Hernando County Electrocution and Electrical Contact Lawyer :: Four Workers Shocked After Pole Falls Into Power Line

January 16, 2014

Workers installing a light pole in Hernando County last week were shocked after the pole smashed into a power line and fell.

The incident took place around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Commercial Way and Cortez Boulevard, according to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

A total of five workers were installing the pole. Four were on the ground guiding the pole into position and one was operating a boom truck.

According to reports, as the boom operator was lowering the pole to the ground, a strap broke sending the pole directly into the power line.

Workers Electrocuted

Both the pole and the power line fell to the ground, shocking the workers.

Two workers were taken to Bayonet Point Hospital as trauma alerts. Another two were taken to Oak Hill Hospital with minor injuries. The fifth worker declined medical attention.

No further information is available at this time regarding the incident or the workers’ conditions.

When electricity or an electrical charge makes contact with a construction worker’s body, the current can flow into or through the body. When an electrical current flows through the body, it can result in rather serious burns. Moreover, it can also disturb the body’s natural electrical signals, causing cardiac arrest and even death. High-voltage electrocution can lead to traumatic brain injuries, loss of consciousness, spinal cord trauma, amputation, respiratory failure and muscle damage.

Electrical injuries can happen anytime and are actually quite a common occurrence on construction sites. If you or someone you love has suffered the intense pain of an electric shock in Spring Hill, Brooksville, Ridge Manor, Weeki Wachee, Hernando Beach or Masaryktown, a Hernando County Electrocution Attorney at Whittel & Melton can help you determine if you may be able to file a personal injury lawsuit to recover compensation for damages.

The scariest thing about an electrical accident is that it can result in many different types of injuries, ranging in severity. The most common injuries associated with electric shock include:

  • Broken bones
  • Brain Damage
  • Permanent and Painful Burns
  • Complete Muscle and Nerve Damage
  • Soft Tissue Injuries
  • Ventricular Fibrillation
  • Muscle Strains or Tears
  • Paralysis or Disability

If you have suffered a shock due to an electrical current, a thorough investigation into the accident needs to be conducted to determine fault. It may be possible that the accident occurred due to someone else’s negligence or carelessness.
