Hernando County Auto Accident Attorney :: Spring Hill Road Rage Argument Results in Arrest

May 6, 2013

Drivers exhibiting road rage will often take their stress, anxiety and anger out on other drivers without even realizing the extreme danger they pose to other motorists sharing the road. Sadly, road rage can result in serious personal injuries or even death.

Recently, a 39-year-old New Port Richey man was arrested on charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault after an argument broke out between two drivers traveling north on U.S. 19 Thursday that resulted in contact being made between the two vehicles.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the occupants of a 2001 Chevrolet Malibu and a 2012 Dodge van swapped insults and threw plastic water bottles at each other. The van swerved in front of the victim’s car making contact. The Malibu was stopped and the driver of the van apparently left his van and began striking the driver’s door and window with his fist.

The woman driving the Malibu fled the scene and called 911.

Police claim the van’s driver admitted that he armed himself with brass knuckles after being struck in the head by the woman with a water bottle.

He was transported to Hernando County Detention Center and later released on $10,000 bail.

Victims of road rage can suffer injuries that are severe and even life altering. The Hernando County Auto Accident Attorneys at Whittel & Melton understand how these cases work and are experienced in the investigation of complex road rage car accident claims. Immediately following your accident, we can begin collect vital evidence to assist with your claim. Road rage incidents often involve “he said/ she said” arguments, which can make it hard to pinpoint the exact cause of the accident. We will consult with witnesses and medical doctors, review police reports and work with experts to uncover and preserve key pieces of evidence that support your claim.

Road rage accidents often involve the following:

  • Cutting off other drivers
  • Running Traffic Lights
  • Cursing and Other Aggressive Behavior
  • Intersection Accidents
  • Drunk Driving Collisions
  • Driver Negligence or Recklessness
  • Pedestrian Injuries
  • Unsafe Lane Changes
  • Tailgating
  • Motorcycle or Bike Accidents

Anger is often the driving force behind a road rage incident. But other factors are usually involved as well, such as mental health problems, alcohol or drugs.

Regardless of the reasons, every driver is responsible for his or her own driving behavior, and when the reckless actions of another motorist result in bodily injuries or death, the at-fault driver can be held liable for damages. If you were injured in an auto accident due to another driver’s aggressive driving or road rage, a Hernando County Injury Lawyer at Whittel & Melton can help you recover compensation for damages.
