Why Motorcycle Crashes Are So Dangerous
Motorcycle accidents pose distinct risks to drivers and passengers that do not exist in other types of motor vehicle accidents. Because motorcycles offer limited protection to riders, these accidents generally involve interactions with human, vehicle, and environmental factors that are not typically present in other automobile accidents. Due to these complexities, most motorcycle accidents are violent, leading to much more substantial injuries, many of which are fatal.
According to statistics, nearly 80% of motorcycle accidents result in injury or death. There are numerous reasons why motorcycle accidents result in a high number of injuries and fatalities, including the following:
- Riders on motorcycles do not have any protection from head or body injuries because motorcycles are not enclosed vehicles.
- In many motorcycle accidents, riders often get thrown from their bikes, which results in significant injuries.
- Many motorcycle accidents throw riders from their bikes, resulting in significant injuries.
Motorcycle accidents often result in severe and catastrophic injuries, such as traumatic brain injuries, paralysis, injuries to the spinal cord, bruises, bone fractures, lacerations, disfigurement, and even death.
