Spring Hill ATV Accident Injury Lawyer :: American Honda Recalls FourTrax ATVs Due to Crash Hazard

January 8, 2013

Spring Hill, FL – American Honda recently announced that they have voluntarily recalled 19,500 ATVs due to a product defect that could result in serious injuries to consumers.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, a weld on the Honda
ATV suspension could separate while the ATV is in use, causing riders to potentially lose control of their vehicles.

At least 10 crashes have been reported as a result of this particular defect. In one of the accidents, a driver reportedly suffered a sprained wrist after crashing.

The recall affects 2012 Honda FourTrax Rancher ATVs. The ATVs were sold nationwide at Honda ATV dealers between Sept. 2011 and Nov. 2012 for between $5,100 and $7,600. These all-terrain vehicles are red, green or camouflage and have the word “Honda” and the Honda wing logo on both sides of the fuel tank. The word “Rancher” is located on the front cowl just beneath the handlebars as well as on the left rear fender.

Honda advises consumers to stop using these ATVs immediately, and schedule free repairs at their local Honda ATV dealerships. In addition, it is illegal to sell these ATVs without getting them fixed first, due to the hazard they could pose to others.

Despite the recall, consumers who are injured by these defective ATVs may be entitled to compensation for their injuries. Any ATV manufacturer can issue a recall of their products due to the fact that their vehicles have been marked as unsafe for use. However, a recall does not release a manufacturer from being held accountable for defective products. Rather, a recall simply decreases a manufacturer’s possibility of facing numerous lawsuits because it reduces the number of defective ATVs available to the public.

Defective ATVs and parts threaten the lives and safety of riders. Unfortunately, defective ATVs are to blame for hundreds of ATV accidents every year. ATVs can be recalled for a variety of reasons, but in general they are recalled for the following:

  • Defects in Design
  • Manufacturing Defects
  • Accident Risks
  • Fire Hazards
  • Brake Failure
  • High Risk for Rollovers
  • Suspension failure
  • Mechanical hazards

If you or someone close to you was seriously injured or killed in an ATV accident, a Spring Hill ATV Accident Lawyer can investigate your case to establish if an ATV defect was a contributing factor to your accident. You could be eligible to receive financial compensation for your pain and suffering.
