Lecanto Man Killed in Car Accident on Citrus County Road

A 55-year-old Lecanto man was killed Friday night on Citrus County Road 491 when his 2004 Toyota pickup exited the road suddenly, veered into a culvert and overturned.

FHP claims the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A witness to the incident said the accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m.

If your loved one was killed in a single-vehicle collision, it does not necessarily mean that the accident was their fault. Someone else’s negligence or an improperly manufactured vehicle could be to blame. While single-car accidents are generally complex cases, you may be able to recover financial compensation for your loss. These accidents require extensive investigation into the circumstances leading up to the collision to determine who was actually at fault. The Citrus County Auto Accident Attorneys at Whittel & Melton handle all types of auto accidents in Inverness, Crystal River, Beverly Hills, Lecanto, Homosassa, Dunnellon, Hernando, Sugarmill Woods, Citrus Springs and Floral City.

Many single-vehicle collisions are caused by the following:

  • Road Construction Accidents – Construction zones can be found throughout roads and interstates in Citrus County. Construction zones are required to be set up in a manner that is safe for all drivers and road construction workers. However, accidents happen in and around construction zones all the time, often resulting in severe personal injuries and even deaths. When car crashes occur in construction zones they can be the direct result of improper warning signs, out of place cones or barriers, incorrectly diverted traffic and other issues. If someone you love was injured or killed in an accident in a construction or work zone, construction companies acting negligently may be to blame.
  • Hydroplaning Accidents – Motorists involved in a hydroplane accident can actually be victims of carelessness or negligence and not even know it. When roads are constructed and maintained properly, hydroplaning collisions should not occur. Water should drain to the side of the road, not accumulate on the road. If you suffered injuries or someone you care for was killed in a hydroplaning accident, those responsible for maintaining the safety of the street or highway may be held liable for any personal injuries or wrongful deaths that occur.
  • Vehicle Defects – Motor vehicles that have defective parts or are inadequately manufactured can cause single-vehicle collisions such as rollovers and crashes with stationary objects. Unstable vehicles, faulty or defective brake systems and defective tires can lead to serious collisions and rollover accidents. Vehicle manufacturers can be held accountable for damages when vehicle defects result in serious auto accidents causing injuries or deaths.
