May 22, 2023
MIAMI LAKES, FL - A Miami-Dade police officer was pinned and extricated from his car and taken to a hospital with injuries after a crash Monday.
According to CBS Miami, the collision took place at the intersection of NW 167th Street and NW 67th Avenue near SR-826. Officials said a pickup truck driver drove through a red light when he collided with the Miami-Dade police cruiser.
The officer was trapped but freed thanks to aid from emergency crews. The first responders then airlifted the officer, later identified as Carson Skelton, to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Skelton suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. He, however, is now in stable condition.
It appears the pickup truck driver and the other occupants - his family - were unharmed; charges are pending.
